Monique burst into my island and, after successfully spying my cities, occupied 4 of the colonies. She came with 5.5k army against my spread out 8k (army in training). After occupying the colonies, she went for my capital. Meanwhile they tried to rob some of the occupied cities. At some point they successfully robbed an unoccupied city for 300 resources :-)
After a couple of rounds at the capital reinforcements started pouring in: Nickson (7.5k) and aaadddyyy (5k). Useless though, as they didn't bother to blockade the harbor, their troops did an about face and scurried back home. To be honest, aaadddyyy did try to blockade the harbor: 2 ships arriving after his army.
I'm not sure which is worse: not knowing you need to blockade the harbor for your troops to come in or not knowing you have to do it before your troops arrive.
It was at this point that i came back to the laptop ... yes they were doing all that for 5 hours and I was not even at the laptop :-)
After going online, I abandoned the winning fight for the capital and started liberating the colonies. Monique was paralyzed with fear as she didn't do anything to stop me. Except to call poor nickson for help who tried to send his reinforcements, this time to an occupied city to avoid the whole blockade embarrassment. Too bad, it was easily liberated and he had to turn around, again.
After the colonies were liberated, it was the capitals turn with a crushing defeat for monique.
The cavalry arrived soon afterward :-)
ARA are a formidable alliance, but their force lies in brainless strength. They are numerous like flies with modest armies and will have relative success attacking you when you are not online, but they are also easily divided on the battlefield and more easily conquered.
I guess quality won over quantity today. The results of the final battle are below with one mention: these are her remaining troops after the first and second battle for the capital.
